About Xadrez Bélico
1. What it is
Xadrez Bélico is an independent editorial project on military history, made in Brazil. Each page of this site accompanies an episode of the channel on YouTube, @XadrezBélico (in Portuguese), and goes beyond it: it brings the battle’s fact sheet, the game move by move, the sources, the credited images and the disagreements that do not fit in a video.
The question is always the same: why this attack worked, or did not, from the point of view of the board — the terrain, the pieces on each side, the order of the moves and the planning error. It is not a project about heroism or anniversaries: it is about causes.
2. How a page is made
- Unit names and times only go in after being verified. Military history readers correct dates, units and calibers — and rightly so.
- Every number carries a confidence seal: confirmed in two or more sources, single source (the text says which), disagreement (we show the versions and do not pick one) or no record.
- Where the text corrects a myth, it uses the full number. Always rounding in favor of the argument is not casual speech, it is a thesis.
- Entirely original writing. The sources are listed at the end of each page.
3. Images
Only period photographs and documents, military maps and photos of the place as it is today go in — the latter with the year written on the image itself. Everything comes from public domain collections or under Creative Commons licenses that allow commercial use, with author and license credited. AI-generated images do not appear on this site, and regime symbols do not appear as the subject of an image.
4. Corrections
Got a date, a name, a number wrong? Write through the contact page, preferably with the source. A confirmed error is corrected here, and the correction also applies to what comes next on the channel.
5. Who makes it
Xadrez Bélico is written, researched and maintained independently, with no ties to any university, company or government body. It comes from the same creator as two other projects with the same care for sources: Vestígio Oculto, on archaeology and mystery, and Arquitetura do Impossível, on how great structures were built (both in Portuguese).
