War in the Pacific
On 7 December 1941, 353 Japanese aircraft from 6 aircraft carriers attacked Pearl Harbor. They hit all eight American battleships, but no aircraft carrier was in port, 6 of the 8 battleships hit returned to service, and the fuel tanks in plain sight were left intact.
In June 1942, at Midway, the Americans were reading part of the Japanese Navy's messages, enough to know the target and the date. On 4 June, three dive-bomber squadrons arrived together, without having arranged it, at 10:20, and three Japanese carriers were set on fire almost at the same time; the fourth went down in the late afternoon.
The two pages separate what was reading the board from what was chance, and say where the counts differ.
